It’s perfectly natural to assume that being a mature student means to some extent being at a disadvantage.  This for the most part comes down to the fact that the vast majority of students tend to be children, teenagers, adolescents and younger adults.  Which in turn means that when you pass the age of say 25, you immediately assume that returning to your education would be a rather radical decision. 

Attempting to make sense of the leadership-versus-management paradox can be challenging, given the way in which many people have to be both. The two concepts certainly go hand in hand, but this doesn’t for one moment mean that they are one and the same. Far from it, in fact, but the more you try to separate the two, the more you begin to realise is extremely difficult to do so.

Impossible, perhaps.

There’s really no disputing the fact that job application forms are a nuisance. They’re long, they’re dull, they ask questions you can’t really answer and others you’d rather not. But at the same time, they’re also part and parcel of the whole recruitment process and one there’s no getting away from. The dictionary definition of a necessary evil, if you like. 

To most people, the idea of something valuable being given away completely free of charge is too good to be true.  Not that products and services aren’t frequently touted as free, but there are usually way too many few strings attached.  Which is precisely why it is natural to be sceptical when it comes to the idea of free distance learning programs.  

Some say you can’t teach old dogs new tricks.  That once you reach a certain age, your formal education is behind you and returning to your studies just isn’t the done thing.

But then again, pretty much everyone in the world once thought that the Earth was flat…people don’t always know what they’re talking about!

In a professional capacity, there’s very little more disheartening that finding out you’ve been passed over for promotion…again.  Despite being entirely convinced that the position had your name written all over it, it was nevertheless allocated to another.  So once again, it’s a case of having that commiseratory chat with your boss, which most of the time does little more than rub salt in the wound.

As naturally curious creatures, human beings are compelled to continue learning throughout their lives.  You may not be consciously aware of it, but chances are the idea of learning new things and broadening your horizons is one that really appeals to you.  Nevertheless, with balancing an active modern life representing a serious challenge in its own right, the prospect of returning to any kind of meaningful education has long been lost on the average adult.
