Why Study Retail Management?

Increasingly, retail management is becoming more about the experience than the products themselves.  Even if you satisfy customers’ needs with the products they require, this doesn’t mean they’ll leave happy or satisfied.  Unless you focus on every aspect of the customer journey from start to finish, they’ll go straight to your competitors and never look back.  This is where the art of effective retail management comes into the equation.  Retail Management is what ensures the entire shopping experience is enjoyable, memorable and distinctive.  It’s the reason customers walk away with the desire to return, and to tell others to pay you a visit.  It’s also why large and small retailers worldwide are constantly on the lookout for talented leadership personnel to add to their ranks.  Whether new to retail or ready to take things a step further, this endorsed Level 3 Retail Management Certificate has you and your career covered!

With Oxford Home Study Centre, every candidate enjoys the freedom to study at a pace and time to suit their lifestyle.  This exclusive Level 3 Retail Management Certificate takes place over a series of five engaging modules, each concluding with an online assessment:

Module 1. Essential Skills for Smart Selling

The course begins with a detailed introduction to selling skills, covering concepts such as customer-focused selling, consultative selling and the importance of ‘smart’ selling in retail.  Candidates study a detailed breakdown of the sales cycle, while considering how to build and credibility with clients and the importance of nurturing good customer relationships.

Module 2. Productivity Techniques for Maximum Selling

Module two turns attention to productivity in a retail setting, in which candidates learn how to evaluate the ‘needs’ and ‘wants’ of the customer.  The roles and functions of up-selling, cross-selling and value-added selling in retail are discussed, along with the 10 most common mistakes made by salespeople and how to avoid them.

Module 3. The Selling Process

Candidates are then guided through each of the component stages of the personal selling process, while considering the differences between personal selling and general sales.  Several important selling theories are also discussed, along with the qualities and characteristics of the effective salesperson, various tools used in consumer protection and more.

Module 4. Dealing with Suppliers

The differences between procurement and purchasing are discussed in module four, in which candidates are presented with a detailed breakdown of the procurement cycle.  The importance of monitoring and measuring supplier performance is also discussed, along with the benefits of single sourcing and how to choose appropriate suppliers for a business.

Module 5. Dealing with the Management of Stock

Concluding the course, module five provides a fascinating introduction to inventory management and the concept of ‘economic order quantity’.  Candidates consider the various different types of stock, techniques for buffering supply and demand, the costs of carrying stock and the importance of carrying safety stock to cope with unforeseen demand.
