Online Health and Safety Courses

Build a clearer understanding of workplace safety through flexible study with Oxford Home Study Centre. Our online health and safety courses cover different needs, from a foundation in everyday workplace safety to advanced safety management and specialist study of hazardous substances.

Browse the full OHSC course catalogue if you also want to compare risk management, construction or other professional subjects.

Health and safety is not one uniform training requirement. The appropriate course depends on the hazards, duties and legal responsibilities connected with your role. This page helps you compare our knowledge-based programmes; it does not replace statutory, site-specific or practical competency training required by an employer or regulator.

Start with the Safety Need, Not Only the Level

The Level 2 certificate is the most direct route when you want a structured introduction to workplace hazards, risk prevention and safety planning. It may support general awareness, but you should still complete any induction, equipment training or role-specific instruction required in your workplace.

The Level 7 advanced diploma has a much larger study commitment and a wider management perspective. Its syllabus extends into risk assessment, incident investigation, safety culture and developing approaches to organisational safety. It is intended for broader knowledge development rather than as a substitute for a regulated qualification or a particular professional credential.

The Level 5 COSHH diploma is a specialist choice. Select it when the identification, assessment and control of hazardous substances is the subject you need to study. COSHH responsibilities are context-dependent, so online learning must be combined with the procedures, safety data and competent supervision applicable to the actual workplace.

What Health and Safety Study Covers

Across these programmes, topics include recognising hazards, assessing risk, planning controls, preventing incidents and understanding how organisations establish safer working practices. Advanced and specialist routes consider additional subjects such as investigation, culture, leadership and hazardous-substance controls.

Knowledge gained through study can help you ask better questions and understand safety processes. It does not authorise you to undertake safety-critical duties, certify a workplace, carry out regulated work or act beyond your competence. Always follow current legislation, employer procedures and competent professional advice relevant to the work being performed.

Online Study and Time Commitment

Our programmes are online and self-paced. The published study times range from 125 recommended hours to 620 hours, so consider the commitment as carefully as the course title. Plan regular study periods, review the syllabus and ensure the assessment format suits the way you intend to learn.

If you only want an initial overview, compare the shorter options in our separate free health and safety course collection. These introductory courses serve a different intent from the more substantial programmes presented here.

Certification

The course fee includes the endorsed certificate available with the programme. If you would also like a CPD-accredited certificate after successful completion, you can purchase one separately. Certificate formats, eligibility and fees should be checked on our certificate pricing page before ordering.

Quality Licence Scheme endorsement and CPD accreditation are different from an Ofqual-regulated qualification, professional registration or a licence to practise. If you need a particular credential for employment, further study or a regulated activity, confirm the receiving organisation's requirements before enrolling.

Select Your Course

Choose the Level 2 certificate for a general foundation, the Level 7 advanced diploma for wider safety-management study, or the Level 5 COSHH diploma for specialist hazardous-substance learning. Before enrolling, check the individual course page and independently confirm any training or qualification requirements attached to your role.
