The various criteria that must be considered when selecting a location for a construction project are detailed and discussed in module three.  Course content also examines the different types of buildings and building classifications, common challenges to effective construction site selection and more.

Module 4. Equipment Planning

An introduction to procurement in construction site management follows in module four, which discusses the different ways construction equipment can be financed.  The benefits and drawbacks of hire purchase (HP) contracts are examined, along with the importance of careful equipment planning and budgeting for procurement.

Module 5. Material Handling

The importance of strategic material handling is discussed in the fifth module, which details the responsibilities of the site manager where material storage and movement is concerned.  The integrated materials management methodology is also discussed, along with the basics of materials procurement and common materials management challenges.

Module 6. Manpower Planning for Construction Projects

Human resource management in construction is explored in module six, in which candidates learn how to measure and assess manpower requirements for construction projects.  Course content covers initial recruitment and selection processes, the importance of effective deployment and delegation, provision of high-quality training and more.

Module 7. Contractual and Legal Responsibilities within a Construction Project

Important legal responsibilities and contractual considerations are examined in module seven, which presents and discusses the most common contracts and agreements in construction.  The purpose and benefits of consumer protection are also discussed, along with a brief introduction to contractual law terminology.

Module 8. Construction Site Traffic Management

Construction site traffic management and its connections with workforce health and safety are discussed in the case module.  Candidates learn how to create, implement and optimise an effective site traffic management plan, along with the potential consequences of substandard site traffic management.

Module 9. Project Planning, Control and Monitoring for Construction

A detailed breakdown of the construction project life cycle is presented in module nine, in which each of its component phases is examined in detail.  Candidates are familiarised with the project initiation phase, the design and planning phase, and the execution and control phase, along with the importance of detailed planning in construction.

Module 10. Managing the Quality of Construction Site Work                

Module 10 turns attention to quality control, guiding candidates through the process of determining an acceptable quality standard and taking ownership of quality throughout the project.  Field quality control is also discussed, along with the advantages and disadvantages of contractor quality control and more.

Module 11. Managing Security and Risk in Construction Work

Concluding the course, module 11 explores the fundamentals of risk management from the perspective of a construction site manager.  The characteristics of an effective risk management strategy are discussed, along with guidelines for performing an effective risk assessment and how to both categorise and mitigate threats at a variety of levels.
