Why Study Logistics Management?
Globalisation and the advent of e-commerce are transforming the face of supply chain and logistics operations worldwide. Today, it’s rare to come across a business of any kind that isn’t dependent on an extensive supply chain. Even where self-sufficiency is an option, it is rarely the most effective or efficient option. Instead, businesses spanning all sectors rely on third-parties for key procurement, storage and delivery activities. All of which are overseen by knowledgeable and talented supply chain management personnel. To become a capable and qualified logistics manager is to gain access to an extensive and potentially lucrative job market worldwide. Whatever your current position and experience to date, this exclusive Level 3 Logistics Management Certificate could help you take that next big step.
Oxford Home Study Centre is proud to offer an extensive range of supply chain and logistics courses at a variety of levels. Study in your own time at a pace that suits your lifestyle, exploring the art of effective logistics management over six intensive modules as follows:
Module 1. Introduction to Logistics Management
The course begins by providing candidates with a detailed definition of logistics, while outlining some of the most important activities in the field. The aims and objectives of logistics are discussed, along with the role logistics management plays at the heart of every successful business and an introduction to several important trends in contemporary logistics.
Module 2. Logistics Strategy & Operations
A fascinating introduction to strategic decision making follows in module two, in which candidates consider the various decisions that must be made when formulating a logistics strategy. Course content also covers logistics strategy design and the objectives of logistics audits, along with the importance of forward planning in logistics management.
Module 3. Procurement & Manufacturing Strategies
Module three turns attention to procurement, in which candidates consider the differences between procurement and purchasing. The functions and objectives of procurement are discussed, along with seller selection strategies, how to monitor sellers’ performance and the potential benefits of single source and multi-source procurement.
Module 4. Transport Management
Course content then covers transport management in logistics, examining the pros and cons of various different transportation methods. Candidates learn how to choose an appropriate mode of transportation, in accordance with costs, convenience, availability, speed and so on. The potential benefits of working with third-party transportation providers are also discussed.
Module 5. Warehousing and Material Handling
Module five brings warehousing and material handling into discussion, in which candidates study the functions, objectives and importance of warehouses in supply chain operations. The benefits and drawbacks of both manual and automated warehouses are discussed, alongside the importance of an effective warehouse layout and an overview of primary warehousing activities.
Module 6. Inventory Management
Concluding the course, module six examines the functions and objectives of inventory management in a wider supply chain and logistics setting.
