Module 1 – Understanding Management and Leadership
The course begins by discussing both leadership and management as two different yet closely connected concepts. The qualities and characteristics of the effective leader are examined, along with various challenges to effective leadership and a breakdown of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats matrix - aka ‘SWOT’ analysis.
Module 2 – Improving Management and Leadership Performance
Module two presents several arguments in favour of pursuing continuous improvement as a leadership figure. Several methods for effectively monitoring and measuring personal performance are presented, along with the value of establishing a personal vision statement and how to create viable and achievable goals in leadership.
Module 3 – Developing a High-Performing Team
The characteristics of the effective working team are discussed in module three, which also discusses high performing team development and maintenance. The advantages and potential disadvantages of team-based work are also considered, along with the role of the team leader in building, motivating and managing a high-performing team.
Module 4 - Communication Skills
Module four details the extent to which communication plays a pivotal role at the heart of successful team management. Candidates learn how to build more effective listening skills, overcome various common barriers to effective communication, encourage more open communication in the workplace at all levels and more.
Module 5 - Emotional Intelligence
Concluding the course, module five explores the concept of emotional intelligence - aka ‘EQ’. Candidates learn how the ability to monitor their own emotions, understand other people’s emotions and consider perceptions from a variety of perspectives can be highly effective in a management or leadership position.
