The course begins with a detailed introduction to logistics, outlining the functions and objectives of transport management from a wider supply chain perspective. Typical duties and responsibilities in the field of transport management are discussed, along with common challenges to effective transport management and current/future trends in transport management.

Candidates are then presented with several fundamental decisions that must be made when formulating a logistics strategy, along with the cornerstones of the effective logistics strategy and the objectives of logistics audits. The value and importance of strategic planning in supply chain and logistics operations is also discussed.

Module three outlines the primary differences between procurement and purchasing, focusing on the functions and objectives of procurement from a supply chain perspective. Candidates also learn how to choose suppliers and evaluate the performance of existing suppliers, while considering the many advantages of single sourcing and the various stages of the procurement cycle.

The fundamentals of effective and efficient transport management are discussed in module four, in which candidates consider the physical transportations of goods and materials between locations. The advantages and disadvantages of common methods of transportations are discussed, along with factors to consider when involving third-party carriers and an introduction to intermodal transport.

Order management and production scheduling are discussed at length in module five, in which candidates consider the various factors that can affect whether products and materials reach their destinations at the right time and for the right price. Course content also introduces the four primary rules of effective order management.

Concluding the course, module six brings material handling and warehouse management into discussion. The fundamentals of an effective warehousing strategy are discussed, along with the importance of strategic inventory management, key considerations when setting up a warehouse, an introduction to the role of packaging in logistics and more.
