The difference between mentoring and training can be explained in a single word – inspiration. While the training process usually involves the communication of instructions and directions, to mentor is to nurture and inspire without necessarily giving orders. In almost every application, mentoring has the potential to yield considerably more powerful and often permanent results. The role of the mentor is one of enormous challenges and responsibilities, though has the potential to be uniquely rewarding and comprehensively fulfilling. Furthermore, the skills of the world-class mentor are always in consistently-high demand, with both public and private sector employers alike.
This coaching and mentoring course online, has been designed for those looking to enhance existing experience, or begin dynamic new careers in a variety of business settings. Over the course of four insightful modules, of coaching and mentoring online course, candidates explore the core qualities of the successful mentor and how ongoing coaching can assist in realising a person’s full potential. A variety of mentoring strategies and techniques are explored, along with the importance of advanced interpersonal communication skills and how to proactively approach associated coaching issues/challenges.
This online coaching and mentoring course, is delivered over four in-depth modules:
Module 1 – Introduction to Coaching and Mentoring
The course begins by providing candidates with a broad overview of coaching and mentoring from a contemporary perspective, along with the duties and responsibilities of the professional mentor. Essential progress monitoring and management techniques are introduced, along with professional assessment strategies and the value of mentoring/coaching from a business perspective.
Module 2 – Interpersonal Communication Skills
Course content in Module 2 focuses on interpersonal communication, outlining the importance of advanced-level communication skills and the consequences of communication breakdowns. Candidates discuss what makes the difference between hearing and actively listening, alongside the use of professional probing techniques and how to improve communication skills in general.
Module 3 – Critical Coaching Skills
The following module guides candidates through a series of critical coaching skills the professional mentor must master. Along with a dissection of the SPIRIT model – Specific, Prizes, Individual, Review, Inspiring, Time-Bound – candidates explore the importance and value of goal-setting, the benefits/consequences matrix and a variety of common learning styles and associated principles.
Module 4 – The Coaching Model
Bringing the course to a close, Module 4 brings a series of coaching challenges and issues into the discussion, alongside a breakdown of the coaching model. How to effectively approach/address common coaching problems is discussed, along with the core components of the ‘Four Steps’ coaching framework and the value of ongoing feedback provision.
At the end of this course successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievementfrom ABC Awards and Certa Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the components the learner has completed as part of the course).
The course has been endorsed under the ABC Awards and Certa Awards Quality Licence Scheme. This means that Oxford home study centre has undergone an external quality check to ensure that the organisation and the courses it offers, meet defined quality criteria. The completion of this course alone does not lead to a regulated qualification* but may be used as evidence of knowledge and skills gained. The Learner Unit Summary may be used as evidence towards Recognition of Prior Learning if you wish to progress your studies in this subject. To this end the learning outcomes of the course have been benchmarked at Level 2 against level descriptors published by Ofqual, to indicate the depth of study and level of demand/complexity involved in successful completion by the learner.
