Unit 7. Overview of Corporate PR

Corporate public relations management continues as the primary topic in unit 7, in which learners explore the roles and responsibilities of corporate PR specialists.  Several common corporate PR issues and challenges are also discussed, along with the importance of thorough planning and consistent communication.

Unit 8. What is ‘Media Relations’?

Unit 8 explores the unique and sometimes challenging relationships organizations build and maintain with media sources. Subtopics covered include opinion writing, press release distribution and media cultivation, along with the potential value of building strong and positive relationships with major and minor media sources alike.

Unit 9. Effective Internal Communications

Course content then switches focus to internal communications, incorporating an exploration of employee perspectives, segmentation of internal publics and more.  The importance of ethical communication is also discussed, along with the role of PR professionals in generating a positive brand image from within its ranks.

Unit 10. Managing Public Affairs: Issues Management

A breakdown of the three-step framework selection process – thinking, planning and action - follows in unit 10, which focuses heavily on the management of issues and challenges in the field of public affairs.  Candidates learn how to create an all-round strategy to effectively and confidently tackle public affairs issues and challenges at a variety of levels.

Unit 11. Key Components of Crisis Management in Public Relations

Crisis management is then discussed in unit 11, which guides candidates through the process of identifying, analysing and ultimately handling even the most severe PR crises.  The various different types of PR crisis that may occur are discussed, along with how the media may react, the unique challenges posed by online PR crises and how to proactively plan ahead for potential PR issues.

Unit 12. The Importance of Ethics and Professionalism in PR

Bringing the course to a close, unit 12 provides an in-depth overview of the value and importance of moral and ethical operations in professional PR.  Candidates explore several ethical decision-making models, along with the benefits of ethical PR management and the potential consequences of poor professionalism in the field of PR.
