Module 1: Six Sigma Basics
The course begins by discussing the functions, objectives and limitations of Six Sigma, while examining each of the five components of the DMAIC approach to project management - (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control). Candidates explore the extent to which Six Sigma has influenced the performance and success of hundreds of major businesses worldwide.
Module 2: Project Improvement Tools
An introduction to the seven most significant Six Sigma project management tools follows in the second module - Cause Effect Diagrams, Histograms, Flowcharts, Scatter Diagrams, Pareto Analysis, Check Sheets and Control Charts. Candidates are presented with samples of each of these tools, while discussing their functions, advantages and applications.
Module 3: Management Tools for Generating Ideas
Module three turns attention to tools and techniques for generating ideas, in which candidates discuss consensus-building, multi-voting and the nominal group technique. Brainstorming sessions and affinity diagrams are also examined, alongside the purposes and mechanics of quality audits, an introduction to nonconformance and more.
Module 4: Project Lifecycle
An in-depth exploration of the project life cycle follows in module five, which discusses each individual stage in detail - Initiation, Strategic Planning, Execution, Control and Closure. Candidates also learn how and why objectives should be established using the SMART methodology - Specific, Measurable, Accurate, Realistic and Time-Bound. Project charters and project resource planning are also discussed.
Module 5: Continuous Improvement
Six Sigma’s role in the pursuit of continuous improvement is discussed in module five, which takes a more detailed look at the DMAIC (define, measure, analyse, improve, control) approach to project management. The benefits of striving for continuous improvement at all stages of the project life cycle are also examined.
Module 6: Customer Relationships
Bringing the course to a close, module six details the direct correlation between customer relationship strength and wider business performance. The benefits of building and maintaining strong customer relationships are discussed, along with the RATER model (Reliability, Assurance, Tangibles, Empathy and Responsiveness) and how to conduct effective customer satisfaction surveys.
