Oxford Home Study Centre is committed to affordable, accessible and enjoyable education for candidates worldwide.  This fully-endorsed Level 4 Bookkeeping Diploma takes place over a series of seven engaging modules, which conclude with online assessment your tutor will mark and return with feedback:

Module 1 - Introduction to Bookkeeping

The course begins with a broad overview of the bookkeeping profession, detailing the functions and objectives of the services provided by bookkeepers.  Additional concepts and terminology introduced include accounts payable, depreciation, expenses, revenues, income statements, equity, liabilities, assets and balance sheets.

Module 2 - Accounting Methods, Concepts and Standard

Module two discusses standardisation in accountancy and the potential benefits of standardisation (national and international).  The concept of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is also introduced, along with several important accountancy methods and additional bookkeeping concepts.

Module 3 - Keeping Track of your Business

Learners are then introduced to some of the most important bookkeeping documents and records for tracking business performance.  Topics covered include accounts payable and accounts receivable, the differences between journals and ledgers, the advantages of journals, subdivision of journals and the importance of strategic cash management.

Module 4 - Understanding Balance Sheet

A more detailed exploration of balance sheets and the objectives of financial statements follows in module four.  Candidates learn how to prepare and adjust a balance sheet, while considering the various different types of assets and liabilities, helpful guidelines for effective balance sheet analysis and an introduction to working capital.

Module 5 - Financial Statements

Module five continues the exploration of financial statements, focusing heavily on working capital and its applications.  The importance of effective working capital management is discussed, along with preparation of cash flow statements, internal/external sources of funds and how to effectively establish working capital requirements.

Module 6 - Payroll Accounting Terminology

The sixth module takes another look at some of the most important terminology in accountancy, payroll and bookkeeping.  Candidates learn the meaning of gross wages, net wages, salary deferrals, employee benefits, accrued leave, government payroll returns, employer tax expenses and more.

Module 7 - End of Period Procedures

Concluding the course, module seven focuses on end-of-period procedures, including depreciating assets, reconciling cash, reconciling investments, working with the trial balance, dealing with bad debt and posting any required adjustments or corrections.
